I have always believed that learners are earners, and readers are leaders, but does that hold true with Udemy?
Remember, anyone can create a course on Udemy and start making money, that is the beauty of it but what does that mean for us? Well, just as anyone can write a book and throw it on Kindle, amazon is starting to get just about anything up there. When you spend your money on your books or on your courses you may not be getting the value that you think you are getting.
Its important when you purchase from Udemy, that you don’t just let the title draw you into the site, instead you want to make sure that it’s the meat and potatoes of the course that is going to help you learn. Always look good before you buy. You want to read the introduction, but you also want to go through the contents of the course one by one and see which section you will actually learn from. I mean if you look at a course and only 2 sections sound like something you want to know then move on. But if the course is 9 sections and you think 6 of them are good, then it may be worth it (depending on the price)..
Remember, Udemy offers coupon codes, and although I recommend people to get on Udemy and create courses, I also recommend people to use the coupon codes and not pay full price.. Yikes! Don’t worry if you are creating courses, the amount of traffic coming to the site the lower payment shouldn’t effect you too much if you’ve got great information.
After you read the contents and made sure there is plenty of information listed in that area, you need to then move onto the reviews. Read the reviews and get out of it what you can. Is the course for beginners? Intermediate? People are going to write in there (if they are good reviews) what they like and didn’t liked.
I love to purchase Udemy courses myself and learn about the latest and greatest things, and I have bought really good courses. I can’t think of any that I really felt I wasted my money on! Isn’t that the beauty of being able to learn from other people? If you are a youtube junkie, or you are just a sponge who loves to learn than I highly recommend that you do check out Udemy. Purchasing a udemy course instead of googling or youtubing the topic will save you time.. It’s all together, set up with the information that you need to learn. Not all the other noise if you were searching. Also you could miss what you need to know so it’s best to learn from the Guru’s in the field.
Although nobody who is writing these courses has to be a GURU, they probably know more about the topic than someone who is searching to learn about it. It’s a great way to learn all kinds of skills, and learn about all different types of programs, etc. It’s a great way to learn and learn it more thorough then if you were going to search yourself on the web.
What I mean is.. If you were going to build a house you could search of it step by step but if you forget to search on how to do the wiring, and you build your house without the wires in the wall, you are missing a BIG part, and you won’t know till you get to the end. That is why I feel Udemy is so much better than searching online how to do it. Another example would be if you wanted to learn about creating a blog. You may learn everything step by step, but they never tell you that you need a domain name.. or you didn’t know that you should. If you were looking at a beginner Udemy course they would probably tell you that step!
So yes, I do love Udemy, and I do think it’s a great way to learn all different types of things.
